Duties, Responsibilities and Accountability

Assistant Flight Technical Officer is accountable to GM/Chief Pilot, Flight Operations Department for ensuring the safety and security of flight operations of applicable aircraft type.

  • Managing and coordinating the operation of the aircraft operated by the fleet to which the appointment is made, so as to meet Bhutan Airlines objectives for a safe and cost-effective operation.
  • Maintaining the aircraft type operating manual, OM-B (SOP), in accordance with the latest standards established by relevant manufacturer, standards of Bhutan Airlines and requirements of the Authority (BCAA) and other applicable authorities.
  • Ensuring that the fleet Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is legible, clearly documented, identified and defined in compliance with the applicable regulations.
  • Proposing and arranging for the incorporation of amendments in the Operations Manual.
  • Liaising with the airbus to ensure that the Aircraft Flight Manuals/Airbus manuals are up to date and provide the most advantageous performance data and operating procedures consistent with safety and fleet standardization.
  • Liaising with the BCAA and other operationally relevant external entities on all matters regarding Bhutan Airlines operating procedures.
  • Promoting safety awareness by maintaining a close working relationship with the Flight Safety Manager and by actively encouraging open reporting and feedback.
  • Technical staff are responsible for maintaining accurate, complete, and compliant records of aircraft and operational activities. Proper documentation ensures airworthiness, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Update Flysmart and EFB with airline customized data and current Airbus manuals.
  • Proper configuration and administrative control of Flysmart Gateway system.
  • Support flight crew with technical manuals, EFB, Mission+ updates to perform their task easily and efficiently.
  • Follow–up on flight crew training/checking.
  • Planning of routes and schedules with respect to any limitations of aircraft performance.
  • Monitoring technical software applications and digital record keepings tools.
  • Ensure the Technical pilot has all necessary technical information for decision making.
  • Update record promptly after any technical activity.
  • Support Technical Pilot/Assist in reviewing aircraft manuals, SOPs and other technical documentations.
  • Ensuring that quality control and quality goals are strictly observed
  • Development of corrective action(s), as appropriate, to address the finding(s) assigned to him.
  • Assist other departments (Operations, Training, QA, Pilots) with technical documentations.
  • Prepare documentation for audits, inspection and safety reviews.
  • Such other tasks as may be required and duly notified by the Flight operations director and Technical or Chief pilot.
